Police arrested two Othello men Monday night in connection with a drive-by shooting that left a bullet fragment stuck in a 4-year-old’s head.
Felipe Michael Garza and Cesar Chavez-Serna, both 19, were arrested by members of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office at separate houses in Othello, Sheriff Doug Barger said. Both men are being held at the Adams County jail.
Police also found the car believed to be used in the drive-by at the same house Garza was arrested at, Barger said. The car was taken to the Washington State Crime Lab to be processed.
The child was released from Othello Community Hospital May 10, the same night of the shooting, after the fragment was removed from his head.
The child and four family members were in a red Cadillac on the 600 block of Wagon Road around 7 p.m., when a brown car pulled up and fired several rounds from a 9mm pistol into the car, Barger said. The family then drove about five blocks to their house while the suspects chased them.
As the family pulled into their driveway, the suspects fired more shots before driving away, Barger said. No one else in the Cadillac was hurt.
Police believe a third suspect may be involved in the shooting. Both Garza and Chavez-Serna are scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
