A Kennewick middle school student recently was arrested after he kicked an assistant principal who tried to search his backpack, which contained marijuana.
The 14-year-old student reportedly brought his backpack into a classroom Friday during class at Highlands Middle School early in the afternoon, said Sgt. Ken Lattin of the Kennewick Police Department. Backpacks aren’t allowed in classrooms.
When an assistant principal at the school came to the room and asked the student to turn the backpack over, the student refused. When the administrator tried to take it from him, the student kicked the assistant principal in the shin, police said.
Police and administrators found marijuana in the backpack once they were able to search it, police said. The student was booked into the Benton County Juvenile Justice Center on suspicion of possession of marijuana and fourth-degree assault.
