The man whose suitcase full of tools was inspected by the Richland bomb squad as a suspicious package Monday said he left the bag in the parking lot on accident after a service call at a nearby office.
Juan Hernandez, 63, said the suitcase was in "pretty bad shape" after he picked it up from police Tuesday, but he was able to salvage almost everything in it.
Hernandez, who owns a Richland-based printer repair company called Printer Tech, said he set the bag down to answer a phone call after leaving the appointment Thursday and forgot to take it with him.
Hernandez had been looking for the bag since losing it and even came back to the parking lot at 945 Goethals Drive on Monday, when the bomb squad was investigating the suitcase.
Most of the tools, which he said are extremely valuable, were salvageable, and Hernandez even was able to recover work order slips from the bag.
"I just want people to know it was me who left it there so they don't worry," he said.
