Umatilla County officials have taken a step toward closing what they describe as a crime-ridden motel and apartment complex off Interstate 84 just west of Pendleton.
The East Oregonian reports (http://bit.ly/10ZFwEY) that deputies slapped declarations on the Rodeo City Inn that say “Notice—Crime Property.”
That’s allowed if certain crimes happen more often than three times in 90 days.
If the owners and county commissioners can’t agree on abating problems at the motel, the county could ask a court to shutter it.
Never miss a local story.
County statistics show deputies went to the 52-room motel at a rate of nearly twice a week in the last three years.
The manager says he works to evict bad apples and says that if the motel closes, people would have to live on the streets.
