A young man using his laptop computer at the Keewaydin branch of the Mid-Columbia Libraries was attacked by gang members, according to the Kennewick police.
Three known gang members were in the branch library at 3:30 p.m. Friday when they thought the juvenile using his laptop was "looking at them funny," said police spokesman Mike Blatman. The victim was wearing a red Washington State University sweatshirt, but police do not believe he had any gang association.
The gang members began harassing the victim and took his laptop, Blatman said. Library staff called 911 as a fistfight broke out.
The victim followed the gang member, who took his computer outside and was hit and kicked, Blatman said. One of the gang members is accused of pulling out a collapsible metal baton and hitting the victim in the head, according to police reports.

When a detective drove by, the three gang members ran off, Blatman. However, all three were found as more officers arrived, and the gang members were taken to juvenile detention.
The victim was taken to Kennewick General Hospital and required six staples to his head, according to police reports.
Library officials were talking with police Monday to confirm the names of the suspects and will ban them from the library for one year, said library spokeswoman Kate Holloway.
