PASCO — A woman was found dead in a Pasco home after reports of a commotion and gunshots Thursday afternoon and a second woman was in custody, police said.
Pasco police responded to 7907 Salmon Drive about 2:45 p.m. after someone reported hearing gunshots at the home.
Officers who arrived at the single-story home in west Pasco found a woman dead inside, said police Capt. Jim Raymond.
Another woman, called an "individual of interest," was taken into custody, he said.
Never miss a local story.
Names of the women were not released, and few other details were available Thursday evening.
The 1,584-square-foot home where the shooting occurred was built in 2007 and is owned by Judy Hebert, according to Franklin County's online property records.
One neighbor said a woman lived in the house with her daughter and granddaughter. Another neighbor said Hebert lived in the house, but wasn't sure if her daughter and granddaughter lived there or just occasionally stayed there.
Crime scene tape surrounded the yard of the home while several officers and detectives stood in the cordoned-off street.
The department's evidence trailer also was parked in front, but investigators were waiting for a search warrant before they could go inside the home and start processing the scene.
Raymond said investigators also were waiting until they got inside the house to determine if they would seek help from the Washington State Patrol Crime Response Scene.
"We have the capability of doing most crime scenes," Raymond said.
Franklin County Coroner Dan Blasdel also was at the scene for a short time. He was expected to return to remove the body after detectives finished processing the home.
Blasdel said he likely wouldn't release the name of the woman who was killed until this morning, and added that an autopsy would be scheduled as soon as possible.
Several motorists slowed to a stop as they saw crime scene tape blocking part of the intersection at Salmon Drive and Okanagan Lane and peered down the street to see what was going on.
