A brazen thief is stealing from parked cars during the day and in areas where there a lot of people.
Kennewick and Richland police are searching for a black man with cornrows in his hair, last seen wearing a gray shirt and black and white baseball cap.
The Kennewick police have surveillance footage of the suspect breaking into a red 2010 Ford Escape parked in the 600 block of North Fruitland Street at 4 p.m. on Nov. 8, said Kennewick police Sgt. Ken Lattin. He smashed the windows on the passenger side of the car and stole a red sweatshirt.
The suspect left in a rented 2016 Infinity SUV with Texas license plates. Richland police contacted the company and determined the person renting the car does not match the suspect, said Capt. Mike Cobb.
Never miss a local story.
”We are actively working with Kennewick police,” he said.
Richland police are investigating five cases of car prowls, all taking place during the day in areas with a lot of people.
“It’s quite bold,” said Cobb. “We believe he is the same suspect. They are connected.”
A vehicle parked along George Washington Way was entered during rush hour.
“When you see people peering through windows, it’s a good time to call (the police),” Cobb said.
Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the Kennewick police at 509-628-0333 or Crime Stoppers at 509-586-8477. People are asked to reference case 16-38425.
