A Chief Joseph Middle School student was hit in a Richland crosswalk by a turning car Monday afternoon.
The 12-year-old, whose name was not released, was crossing the street on a skateboard about 2:30 p.m. when he was hit by a Ford Windstar turning from McMurray Street onto South Jadwin Avenue, said Richland police Sgt. Allen Jenkins.
“He was on a skateboard from what we’re understanding,” Jenkins said.
The van wasn’t speeding and the boy’s injuries weren’t life-threatening, Jenkins said. The boy was conscious when emergency crews arrived and was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland.

The driver, who was not named, is cooperating with police, Jenkins said.
