• Mid-Columbia Partnership middle school students tied for 13th place in the world at the recent Destination Imagination Global Competition, held at the University of Tennessee. More than 8,000 students from 17 different countries participated.
The teams faced the “Creature Feature” challenge, in which students had to build a creature that uses technical methods to perform team-chosen actions, present a story of adventure with the creature as a character, use technical methods to demonstrate features of a world where the story is set, and create/present two team choice elements that showed off the team’s interests, skills, areas of strength, and talents.
Mid-Columbia Partnership’s team, The Jive Bombers, included Evan Adair, Dessie Coleman, Cayden Perdue, Kaden Selman and Madeline Teigen. Team manager was Michelle Teigen.
• Bill and Debbie Robertson, prized sponsors and investors of the Boys and Girls Club of Benton Franklin Counties, recently unveiled its latest show of support for the local organization: a Boys and Girls Club wall in the Pasco Bill Robertson dealership waiting room. The dealership is a proud supporter of the Boys and Girls Club, and hopes that the wall will serve as a promotional and educational piece to the public.
The wall is dedicated entirely to things that local youth have done, including artwork and pictures. The Boys and Girls Club display will remain year-round and will showcase youth artwork, upcoming events and pictures.
The Robertsons presented the wall to the Boys and Girls Club at a recent ceremony.
• On May 26, the Senior Life Resources’ Meals on Wheels program celebrated the service of volunteers who help serve meals to those in our community who need assistance accessing well-balanced, nutritious meals on a regular basis.
The event at the REACH Museum attracted 185 people. The evening included the opportunity to view the exhibits and enjoy fine appetizers and wine tasting. Sponsors were the Chefs at Life Care of Richland, Hawthorne Court, Brookdale Senior Living in Richland, Emeritus at Canyon Lakes, Ethos Bakery, Fieldstone Memory Care, Denise and Steve Watts, and Shandra Knowles. Donations were also received from Bennett Rentals, Fantasy in Ice, US Linen, The REACH, and Twigs and Petals II.
Steve and Linda Sealock of Pacific Rim Winery donated the wine and poured for the evening. Music was donated by the Three Rivers Dulcimer Society.
Door prizes were contributed by Ariel Gourmet and Gifts, Bob’s Burgers, Brookdale Communities, Charbonneau Retirement Center, Fieldstone Memory Care, Girls Scouts Leaders, Greenies, Jiffy Car Wash, McCurley Honda, Tom and Patty Morgan, Kris Nordquist, Red Lobster, Riverton by Bonaventure, Sun Willow Golf Course, Wildhorse Resort and Casino and the Tri-Cities Quilters Guild.
