Roads and businesses around Columbia Industries on South Dayton Street in Kennewick are open again after a natural gas leak caused by a car crashing into a gas meter led authorities to evacuate the area.
The crash and leak happened just before 11 a.m. About 100 evacuees are at the Kennewick High School gym, including about 30 toddlers from the daycare.
Students remained in their classrooms at the high school.
Several streets around Sixth Avenue and Dayton Street were blocked off while officials attempt to get leak under control with Cascade Natural Gas and the Kennewick Fire Department.
Police announced about 2 p.m. the area was open again.
