WALLA WALLA -- The Walla Walla Rural Library District has launched a 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten, a new reading program intended to promote reading to newborns, infants and toddlers, and to encourage bonding between parent and child through reading.
The program is available for newborns to children entering kindergarten and to Walla Walla County residents as well as nonresidents.
To participate, parents or day care providers must log which books they read with their child. An official reading log can be picked up at any rural library branch, or it can be downloaded at www.wwrurallibrary.com/1000bb.
For every 100 books a child reads and logs, each participating child will receive a free book as well as have his or her name added to their library's Wall of Milestone Readers.
Never miss a local story.
The goal is to have each child complete 1,000 books and be rewarded with 10 free books. To learn more, go to www.wwrurallibrary.com.
