Speakers defending two competing gun-related ballot initiatives will address the Columbia Basin Badger Club on Friday.
Phil Watson, director of special projects at the Second Amendment Foundation, will talk about Initiative 591. It would prohibit the state government from confiscating guns without due process, or from requiring background checks unless there is a uniform national standard, if passed.
A speaker from the Washington Alliance for Gun Responsibility is expected to address Initiative 594. That, if approved, would require background checks on firearm sales, including those made at gun shows and on the Internet.
The event is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Richland Red Lion Hotel, 802 George Washington Way. The cost is $20 for members and $25 for others. The deadline to sign up is Tuesday.
