Dick Weaver, a longtime high school sports referee in the Tri-Cities, died Saturday in Medford, Ore., at age 74.
Weaver had worked football, baseball, basketball and softball games in the area since 1981, the year he and his family moved to Kennewick.
"He was real serious about officiating," said Mike McMullen, who worked as a football referee with Weaver.
"He took it real serious. He went and did his job the way it needed to be done."
Weaver officiated at several state high school events, including a football final at the Kingdome in Seattle in the early 1990s and a AAA softball tournament championship game in 1992. He stopped working football games after the 2010 season because of knee problems.
Weaver, who worked 30 years at IBM before retiring in 1992, also was a member of the Kennewick General Hospital Foundation and helped raise money to establish the Tri-Cities Cancer Center.
