The West Richland Police Department's National Night Out event is tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. at Flat Top Park.
The event will include a free drawing, games, a bounce house and hamburgers and hot dogs. A gun safety video for children will be played throughout the evening, and gun safety informational guides will be available. Child identification kits also will be available.
The West Richland Fire Department plans to display fire equipment and teach CPR techniques. Flat Top Park is at the corner of Bombing Range Road and Van Giesen Avenue.
"This is a night for America to stand together and promote awareness, safety and neighborhood unity," National Project Coordinator Matt Peskin said. "National Night Out showcases the vital importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement in our fight for a safer nation."
The cities of Kennewick and Richland also have organized National Night Out events. Richland's is from 5 to 8 p.m. at John Dam Plaza, 1815 George Washington Way and Kennewick's is 5-7:30 p.m. at the Southridge Sports Complex, 2901 Southridge Blvd.
