Four Tri-City students, and several from the Mid-Columbia, each were awarded $4,500 in scholarships by a foundation that benefits the employees of Broetje Orchards.
Yurema Alvarado, Manuel Bustos Ramirez and Miguel Velazco, all of Pasco, and Claire Andrus of Richland, received scholarships from the Vista Hermosa Foundation Scholarship Program during a celebration in Pasco.
They were among 26 students, all first in their families to attend college, to receive the financial aid.
Vista Hermosa has provided more than $1.3 million in scholarships to students of Broetje Orchards employees since 1997. The company manages 6,000 acres of apple and cherry orchards in Washington with the bulk of its operations in Prescott.
The selected students are pursuing a number of careers at various institutions, from Columbia Basin College to Columbia University. Eligible students perform community service while they receive the scholarship, which can be renewed for up to four years.
