WALLA WALLA -- A man witnesses say threatened to spray a baby with pepper spray in downtown's Heritage Square park was thwarted when another man jumped between them.
Tyson L. Chilton, 30, of Walla Walla, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of second-degree assault for administering a poisonous or noxious substance to the face of Sam Potter, the man who intervened.
Potter, who knew the baby's mother, jumped between the 1-year-old and Chilton and was sprayed, police reported. A fight ensued, but when police arrived Chilton had left.
Potter was taken to Providence St. Mary Medical Center, and while being treated he identified Chilton in a photo lineup.
Chilton was booked into the Walla Walla County jail on $30,000 bail.
