The Bookworm, a popular Tri-Cities bookstore, will close its Richland location at 701 The Parkway in a couple of months.
Owners Cindy and Mark Bitzer of Pasco might keep it open into August, but it likely will close at the end of July.
"We've already consolidated as much of our stock as we can at the Kennewick store," Cindy Bitzer said.
A closeout sale is under way in Richland. New books are 10 percent off; used books are still half off.
Never miss a local story.
"That may change as we get closer to closing the Richland store. We need to diminish our stock," she said.
Bitzer said it was a hard decision, as they celebrated the 40th anniversary of the store's founding last May.
"This definitely isn't what we wanted to do. But the support just isn't there in the community, and the Kennewick store has always been the busiest. It's sad to see this one go," Bitzer said.
Credit at the Richland store can be used at the Kennewick location. No trade-ins are being accepted at the Richland store.
Some bookcases and other fixtures will be sold as well.
Until it closes, the Richland store will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
The Kennewick store, 201 N. Edison St., is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
