PASCO -- The closed pedestrian bridge at 20th Avenue and Pearl Street in Pasco will be removed by the Pasco School District this summer.
The removal will close the two streets from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 22, a district release said. It will not be replaced.
Nearby residents could see increased traffic through detours, and construction vehicles will use 20th and 14th avenues as well as Pearl Street during the demolition.
The bridge was closed last spring because of structural issues. It was installed decades ago to help Robert Frost Elementary School students cross 20th Avenue safely before there was a crosswalk or traffic signal at the intersection.
Crossing guards have helped students cross the street since the bridge's closure.
