BOARDMAN -- The SAGE Center celebrates its one-year anniversary May 31 with a free admission day.
"The first year has been incredibly successful and all visitors have left with a new understanding of what goes on in our region," said Kalie Davis, manager of the facility.
The Port of Morrow's Sustainable Agriculture and Energy (SAGE) Center is a 23,000-square-foot museum that opened last June.
Its interactive visitor facility highlights the many industries within the Port of Morrow and surrounding region, as well as technologies those areas use for everything from ethanol production to potato processing.
It features 10,000 square feet of exhibit space, a 3,000-square-foot mezzanine with seating for up to 150 people, and a 204-seat theater with a projector capable of showing 3D films.
The center, a project of the Port of Morrow, has proved to be a fun and educational outing for the whole family, Davis said.
SAGE officials hope visitors will gain an appreciation for the port and county's impact on and place in the larger world.
At the open house, the center will provide free samples of Tillamook ice cream all day to visitors. Regular ice cream prices are $2 for a single scoop, $3 for doubles and $4 for triples.
