Former Franklin County Commissioner Harold Mathews died Wednesday at his Richland home.
Mathews, 92, served as a commissioner for 15 years before stepping down at the start of 1993. Among the issues he worked on was establishing TRAC in Pasco and the development of new roads with state matching funds.
He stepped down from the commission to devote more time to working with youth as the new superintendent of the Reclamation Boys Ranch operated through First Baptist Church in Riverview.
He spent much of his life as an educator.
Never miss a local story.
He started his teaching career in 1952 and served 13 years as a teacher and three years as principal at Finley's River View High School.
In 1970 he helped start the school at First Baptist Church in Riverview and eventually served as its principal.
