A Pasco woman won't be cheering on the Seattle Seahawks from the stands this weekend.
But she'll be close enough to enjoy all the nearby fanfare.
Jodi Mix is one of 112 people -- 56 winners plus a guest -- who will fly from Seattle to Newark, N.J., on Saturday.
They won the "Russell Wilson's 12th Fan Airlift" contest sponsored by Alaska Airlines. The airline reports it had 63,000 entries from residents in Washington, Oregon and Alaska. Winners were selected at random.
Never miss a local story.
The 12th man refers to the Seahawks fan base.
Wilson, an Alaska Airlines endorser, will be quarterbacking the Seahawks against the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII Sunday in East Rutherford, N.J.
Mix entered the contest when she saw it promoted on Wilson's Facebook page.
Mix has been a Seahawks fan all her life, but picked up the enthusiasm within the past five years, she said.
She will fly from Pasco to Seattle today to be there for the flight to the New York area the next day. She will stay two nights at a hotel in midtown Manhattan and watch Sunday's Super Bowl as part of a special party in New York.
"It will be fun to be part of that," she said. "Especially heading down there. Hopefully we'll be celebrating on the way back."
Mix, who will take her boyfriend, has never been to New York before. She said she plans to visit some of the traditional New York tourist attractions, as well as the National Football League's Super Bowl Boulevard, a football-themed street fair set up in Times Square. It features a toboggan run and lighted Roman numerals XLVIII.
One challenge was getting her boyfriend, a fan of the arch-rival San Francisco 49ers, to switch allegiances.
"He did go and buy a Seahawks jersey last night," she said.
An Alaska Airlines spokeswoman declined to say if any other Tri-City fans would be on the plane.
