The Tri-City Americans hockey team has partnered with the Children's Reading Foundation of the Mid-Columbia, Kadlec Regional Medical Center and Second Harvest to hold an annual book and food drive.
Those attending the hockey game scheduled on Friday, as well as on Feb. 7 or March 7, are asked to bring new or gently used books to donate or food donations for Second Harvest.
All book or food donors will be entered into a raffle to win a full-color Nook donated by Kadlec. There also will be a Kindle raffled off at each of the three hockey games.
Flashing lights installed near middle school
Never miss a local story.
Kennewick has installed flashing beacons on Fourth Avenue at Highlands Middle School to help students cross the street safely.
The signals will further alert drivers to the 20-mph speed limit when students are arriving at or leaving the school and help crossing guards, a release said.
Completion of the Highlands project means every middle and elementary school in the Kennewick School District and within the city limits has flashing beacons. The district and a grant from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission paid for the project.
