A Walla Walla man recently won $200,000 playing a Scratch game with Washington’s Lottery.
Chad Garofalo stopped at a Good Guys, a Walla Walla gas station, on his way to work to buy a 50X the Cash Scratch ticket and a soda. After scratching the ticket and realizing he won, he took the day off and headed home to tell his wife, a news release from Washington's Lottery said.
“She started screaming and woke up all the kids," he said in a statement.
The same day, he claimed his prize from Washington’s Lottery Yakima Regional Office, the release aid.
Never miss a local story.
He told Lottery officials that he and his wife started a small winery called Garofalo Family Winery about a year ago and plan to use some of his winnings to help fund the new company.
Garofalo and his wife also plan to pay off their cars and student loans and save some of the money for retirement, the release said.
“With the holiday season coming up, I think we’re going to give a portion to my two brothers and my wife’s two brothers. We’d like to share the wealth," he said.
Garofalo plays Washington’s Lottery every day or every other day and he usually purchases Lotto and Powerball tickets. He’s won $1,000 twice before, once playing Scratch and another time playing Quinto, a now-retired game. This is his first big win.
Proceeds from Washington’s Lottery benefit the Washington Opportunity Pathways Account, providing scholarships to college students statewide. To learn more about Washington’s Lottery, its beneficiaries and to review all up-to-date winning numbers, please visit www.walottery.com.
