Several rooms in a senior living home in Richland flooded Tuesday after a pipe in the fire sprinkler system burst.
The pipe ruptured on the third floor of Wynwood Brookdale Senior Living on the 1600 block of George Washington Way about 2 p.m., flooding several rooms on that floor and some on floors below, said Richland Fire Battalion Chief Curt Walsh. A similar issue in the draining system also led to flooding, including of the entry area.
The electricity was shut off and an electrician was onsite, according to a city news release issued about 5 p.m. Residents were evacuated to a cafeteria in the facility.
Wynwood staffers were contacting residents' family members, the release said. Walsh said about 116 people live there.

Walsh didn't have an estimate of the damage to the facility but said it was significant. He reminded building owners to check their facilities' pipes, which can split in the cold and then leak or rupture.
