Kennewick and Richland city councils are hoping to hear what the public has to say about businesses that grow, produce or sell marijuana tonight.
The councils will hold public hearings during meetings tonight.
Kennewick City Council meets at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 210 W. Sixth Ave., and Richland City Council meets at 7:30 p.m. at city hall, 505 Swift Blvd.
Kennewick and Richland have adopted six-month moratoriums on any marijuana-related businesses within city boundaries.
City officials say they are struggling with how to respond to the legalization of marijuana for recreational use among adults 21 or older as created by Initiative 502. There remains a disconnect with federal law and with the state's medical marijuana law.
The state is in the process of creating rules to govern the regulation and taxation of the production, processing and retail sale of marijuana, and began accepting businesses licenses for that purpose last month. Licenses may be issued as soon as March, with legal sales beginning as early as June.
