December could be a little colder than usual this month in the Tri-Cities, with cold temperatures forecast for this week bringing down the expected average temperature for the month.
The National Weather Service is predicting temperatures to be near to below normal for December.
Normal highs for the Tri-Cities fall from 44 degrees at the start of the month to 39 degrees at the end. Normal lows fall from 32 degrees to 28 degrees.
However, temperatures should be considerably colder than that this week, with lows in the teens starting overnight Tuesday and possibly dropping to 7 degrees Wednesday night.
Highs should be in the 20s starting Wednesday and continuing through early next week.
Precipitation should be near normal, 1.13 inches, according to the weather service.
November was slightly colder than normal in the Tri-Cities, due largely to cold weather from the 21st through the end of the month.
No daily temperature records were set at the Hanford Meteorology Station, where daily records have been kept back to World War II.
