An Eastern Oregon mental hospital slated to close in January will get a three-month lifeline.
The state Legislature’s budget committee approved $2.4 million for the extension Friday. The Blue Mountain Recovery Center in Pendleton is now set to close in March.
Republican Sen. Bill Hansell of Athena told the East Oregonian that he hopes the extension will allow time for staff to find work and for the city to decide what to do with the facility.
The center has typically held about 55 patients but dropped to just 15 last month. At the beginning of the November, it had 96 employees.
The center has not announced any plans to admit more patients to take advantage of the extra funding.
