Bruce "Blacky" Blackwell, who has never held a public office before, continues to hold a slight lead over incumbent Gary Walton in the race for Connell mayor, according to the most recent vote tally.
Blackwell led Walton by 15 votes, or 54 percent, Wednesday night. He led the incumbent by almost the same margin when votes were tallied Tuesday.
Blackwell, 66, told the Herald he plans to take the city in a new direction if elected. He said he wanted to have more transparency and providing stability.
Officials are scheduled to count more votes today.
