An Othello elementary school teacher will spend a year behind bars after pleading guilty to molesting a 10-year-old boy.
Lisa Davis, who pleaded guilty in September, was sentenced in Adams County Superior Court on Monday, according to court officials. She also will have to register as a sex offender when she is released from custody.
Davis, 48, taught at Scootney Springs Elementary School as a fifth-grade teacher. The Othello School District reported Davis to the Othello Police Department in May, saying her relationship with a student she coached in reading was suspicious and unprofessional, court documents said.
Investigators discovered Davis would frequently talk to the student on the phone, take him to movies out of town and give him and his family gifts.
The student told authorities that he and Davis had kissed and touched each other inappropriately in her classroom and at a friend's home while the friend was away.
The relationship began in 2012 and didn't end until this year after Davis' husband contacted the student's family and told them to stop allowing the boy to call Davis.
Davis resigned from her teaching position after the investigation became public.
