The Hanford site will be testing an emergency siren Wednesday morning.
The siren will be activated between 10 a.m. and noon in an area directly across the Columbia River from the Wahluke Hunting Area, according to a Department of Energy news release. Announcements saying, "This is a test," will be heard just before and after the sirens sound.
County officials would activate the Emergency Alert System in a real emergency, which would broadcast information on local radio and television stations. Sirens also would be activated to warn people along the river.
The periodic emergency drills and siren tests are used to test equipment and train workers on emergency response procedures.
