MoveOn.org members will visit the office of Rep. Doc Hastings, R-Wash., today to urge him to stand strong against harmful tea party GOP antics carrying signs that read, "Stop the GOP Madness" and "End the #GOPShutdown."
Members of the progressive political group also will be delivering petition signatures to Hastings.
The local organizer of the event, Mary Wilcox, said in a news release that she planned the event because "we need to stop the GOP madness. Republicans have made it clear that they are willing to harm the economy, and the many hard-working families who are struggling to get by, to get what they want. The government shutdown is depriving Americans of access to vital services, forcing hundreds of thousands of public servants to go without pay, and striking a big blow to our economic recovery."
The release asks Hastings "to stand strong and fight to raise the debt ceiling and pass a clean continuing resolution, without all of the GOP's extremist demands attached. We've had enough of the GOP's harmful tea party tactics."
Never miss a local story.
The protest is set for noon at 2715 Saint Ave Loop, Pasco.
