A 19-year-old Pasco man is being held on $100,000 bail for allegedly stealing a truck after forcing the victim to perform a sex act at knifepoint.
Sergio Nicholas Sanchez-Stewart was caught a short time later when he tried to speed away from authorities and ended up crashing the stolen truck in a ditch in Pasco, according to court documents.
The incident occurred on Sanchez-Stewart's birthday.
He has pleaded innocent in Franklin County Superior Court to first-degree robbery, first-degree rape and attempting to elude police.
His trial is scheduled Oct. 23.
Pasco police were dispatched Aug. 28 to a robbery that had just occurred on North Eighth Avenue. The adult male victim was crying and upset as he told officers that a knife-wielding man got into his Ford truck and forced him to have sex before leaving with the pickup, court documents said.
The victim gave police his truck's license plate number, which a Franklin County sheriff's deputy found near Fourth Avenue and Court Street. When the truck took off, police joined in the chase until the truck ran off the roadway and landed in a ditch at Road 40 East and Sacajawea Park Road, documents said.
Sanchez-Stewart, who reportedly was behind the wheel in the crash, was handcuffed. A search of his person before he was placed in a patrol car turned up a sheath for a large knife and $40 in cash in a front pocket, court documents said.
The victim was driven to the crash site and identified Sanchez-Stewart as the man who had raped and robbed him, documents said. Sanchez-Stewart has been ordered to have no contact with the victim while the case is pending.
