A 17-year-old driver hit a gas pump at a Conoco station on the 2200 block of Stevens Drive in Richland late Saturday morning, leading to a fire and the brief closure of part of the roadway, Richland police reported. No one was hurt in the incident.
The teen was pulling out of the gas station in a Ford Bronco, sped up too quickly and lost control, said Richland police Cpl. Hyrum Stohel.
The Bronco reportedly spun around, hit a curb and retaining wall, then struck a gas pump, leading to a fire.
The incident happened about 11 a.m. Stohel said part of Stevens was shut down for about a half hour while firefighters put out the blaze.
The teen likely will receive a speed-related citation, Stohel said.
