A Pasco man has been arrested for trying to break into cars in Kennewick, police said.
Juan C. Hernandez-Rico, 30, attempted to break into a car around 12:30 p.m. Sunday, but was stopped by several customers of a laundromat, according to a Kennewick Police news release. Police said Hernandez-Rico fought off the customers and escaped.
Hernandez-Rico then went into the Auto Zone at 1220 W. Fourth Ave., which is when police were called. Police said he was bleeding from the lip and claiming to have been assaulted. Hernandez-Rico left the store through the back door as the first officer arrived.
It was then that police learned of the car prowl across the street at the laundromat, police said. A few minutes later, another caller reported that a man matching Hernandez-Rico’s description was trying to break into a car in the 1300 block of West Third Avenue.
Police came to the scene and arrested Hernandez-Rico on suspicion of vehicle prowl and trespass. He was booked into the Benton County jail.
