A group supporting a levy lid lift to allow emergency medical services to continue in some unincorporated parts of Franklin County will have a public meeting Wednesday.
Franklin Fire District 3 is asking for a 32 cents per $1,000 tax assessment lid lift to continue paying for emergency services in the district. The 150-square-mile fire district says it might not be able to provide ambulance services after February 2014 without a tax increase. A campaign called "Vote YES! for FCFD#3 Ambulance Levy" will hold a meeting on the proposed lid lift, scheduled for 7 p.m. at Columbia Valley Grange, Road 64 and Court Street in Pasco.
The 2,100-resident fire district will vote on the issue in the November election.
The fire district has been using reserve dollars to pay for ambulance service since the city of Pasco, which had been providing it emergency services, attempted to raise what it charges the fire district by 500 percent.

The levy lid lift would raise the fire district's levy to the maximum allowable $1.50 per $1,000.
