The Department of Energy has found no significant environmental impact from a proposed addition of 100,000 square feet of new laboratory and office space at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
It conducted an environmental assessment to consider adding the space at the heart of the PNNL campus. Plans have not been finalized and the space could include new buildings or annexes to current buildings.
DOE and PNNL have identified a need for more state-of-the-art laboratory space, including for chemistry and biology labs and imaging and other instrumentation, for current and future research.
Some of its current labs are outdated or nearing the end of their useful life and different or expanded capabilities are needed for some research.
