The Moses Lake School District is canceling classes at Longview Elementary School on Friday after what appears to be an outbreak of a norovirus-like illness.
Nearly 25 percent of students are sick, according to a news release from the Grant County Health District.
The school district and health district are investigating. Symptoms include fever, nausea, diarrhea and vomiting.
Staff and students who are sick should stay at home for at least 48 hours after diarrhea and/or vomiting stop, the release said.
“It is likely that more students or staff and possibly other community members will become ill in the near future, as norovirus-like illnesses are very infectious,” the release said.
“If you become sick with a stomach virus it is important to stay home, stay away from well family members, clean bathroom and surfaces after use, drink plenty of fluids, don’t prepare food for others, and wash your hands often,” it said.
