RICHLAND -- An 11-year-old Richland boy's response in an emergency saved his mother's life, according to Richland police.
The boy came home from school Friday and found his mother unconscious, according to police reports. He called 911 immediately and began performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation to the best of his ability, following instructions from the 911 dispatcher.
Police, notified by dispatch that a child was giving his mother CPR, arrived quickly. They took over CPR until the Richland Fire Department paramedics arrived. The boy had been escorted out of the room.
Paramedics were able to get a pulse and the woman was taken to Kadlec Regional Medical Center. The 11-year-old also helped police find medical information about his mother so she could be treated by medical personnel.
