The Kennewick City Council on Tuesday unanimously voted to approve an interlocal agreement dealing with regionalization of emergency communications in the Tri-Cities.
The agreement is among Benton and Franklin counties and the cities of Kennewick, Pasco and Richland.
Under the pact, a consultant will be hired using a state grant to create a plan to form a regional emergency communications system in Benton and Franklin counties.
The pact doesn't guarantee regionalization; a final decision will come once the plan lays out details.
Benton County commissioners and the Pasco and Richland city councils also have approved the agreement. Franklin County commissioners are scheduled to discuss it Wednesday.
