A wine bar operated by Gordon Estate will open at Broadmoor Square in west Pasco in a few weeks. It's going into the former food court area of Broadmoor Square, located off Sandifur Parkway.
The owners, Jeff and Vicki Gordon of Pasco, expect to pour Gordon Estate wines and vintages from their second label, Kamiak, by mid-April.
They began negotiations with Broadmoor management two years ago and gave Elite Construction and Development the go-ahead in February to begin remodeling. Construction workers are busy putting up walls, painting and installing a granite-topped wine bar.
"It was really important for us to open in Pasco; that's our home," said Katie Gordon Nelson, daughter of the owners.
Never miss a local story.
"We'd all looked at several locations but liked the visibility of Broadmoor and it already had the kitchen," she said. "The location is exactly what we wanted, and Pasco needs us here. We're making a beautiful, cool thing for Pasco and the community."
The architect, Terence L. Thornhill, has designed the wine bar using about 3,000 square feet of the food court. There will be dual hallways giving access to the adjacent office space and to the public restrooms.
A set of beautifully carved wooden doors will open into the interior.
"When it's done and you're inside, you will not remember you're in the mall. It'll be fully enclosed with no windows looking out," Nelson said.
Toward the back of the room, by the kitchen and wine bar area, will be what Nelson describes as an indoor patio. They will have tables and chairs and a few couches for seating.
"We plan on serving tapas and other light fare, maybe some sandwiches, and hope to have live music on the weekends. We're hoping this will become a place where people will come and relax and spend some time," Nelson said.
The Gordons have hired a manager, Loretta Tucker, who most recently worked at the Wenatchee Convention Center. She also ran a wine bar in Leavenworth.
"She has more experience in tourism and the restaurant business than we do. We grow grapes and make great wine," Nelson said.
This is the Gordons' second venture into west Pasco. They used to operate a production facility and wine tasting room near TRAC, but closed it and moved back to the vineyard and farm off the Pasco-Kahlotus Highway.
