BENTON CITY -- About 100 employees of the Kiona-Benton City School District did not get their pay deposited into bank accounts as scheduled Friday, leading some teachers to overdraw their accounts and requiring the district to cut new checks.
Superintendent Rom Castilleja said some deposits were marked with the wrong date, meaning the employees' banks can't process the money until Monday.
The problem affected about half of the district's employees. Because those employees still will receive payment Monday, when their banks process the original deposits, they will have to return the money to the district, Castilleja said.
Connie Meredith, president of the Kiona-Benton City Education Association, said more problems occurred when the printers used for cutting checks weren't working for part of the day.
Never miss a local story.
The district will cover any bank overdraft charges with proper documentation, Castilleja said.
