Firefighters with Benton Fire District 1 fought a stubborn grass fire Tuesday night at the southeast end of Easterday Farms.
A strike team was called in to help because the fire was in an area difficult to get to and much of the fire had to be fought with hand-held equipment and long hoses. Crews from Benton fire districts 6 and 4, and Kennewick and Richland fire departments also assisted.
The fire, which began about 4:30 p.m. covered 10 to 15 acres and was out by 8 p.m. No structures were threatened.
The cause is under investigation, "but farmworkers at Easterday said they had had some power outages during the day and there are some power lines in the middle of the fire so they're likely the cause," said Capt. Devin Helland of Benton Fire District 1.
Never miss a local story.
"We'll be back in the morning to check things out," he said.
