Volunteers sought to read to school kids in Kennewick
Team Read is looking for volunteers to work with first-, second- and third-graders as reading mentors in the Kennewick School District.
About 200 students in six elementary schools work with volunteers in the program, which is part of the Children's Reading Foundation of the Mid-Columbia, but more mentors are needed.
Mentor training starts this month and runs through October, and volunteers are asked to work with a student for two 30-minute sessions a week. Bilingual and substitute tutors are particularly needed.
Never miss a local story.
The program also is looking for business partners who will support employees taking an extra 30 minutes during lunch to volunteer as mentors.
