The West Richland bomb squad detonated a small bomb Friday evening, according to the Benton County Sheriff's Office.
A potential buyer for some land on Mt. Adams View Drive in West Richland was walking over the property when he came across what looked like a World War II mortar shell, said Benton County Sgt. Bob Brockman.
A sheriff's deputy confirmed that it appeared to be a live shell. It was about six to eight inches long, Brockman said.
The bomb was detonated about 7:30 p.m., he said.
