BENTON CITY -- The Kiona-Benton City School District is waiting for more information before deciding what to do with a moldy portable classroom.
The affected portable is at Kiona-Benton City Elementary School and was used partly for a classroom but also for special programs and storage.
District administrators moved out of their administrative building near the school in mid-August to accommodate those students and programs, said Superintendent Rom Castilleja.
District offices have been temporarily moved to the back of Kiona-Benton City High School.
Never miss a local story.
Castilleja said the district is talking to experts about the mold and what it needs to do to remove it.
Preliminary estimates indicate it could cost as much as $300,000 -- about double the cost of buying and installing a new portable classroom.
