WALLA WALLA -- Walla Walla Community College is a finalist for a national community college award for the second year in a row.
The community college is one of ten schools named to the list for the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence and one of only two institutions on the list from west of the Rocky Mountains.
The winning school will be given $1 million during an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., in March.
The Aspen Prize is awarded by the Aspen Institute, a non-partisan education and policy studies organization.
The award recognizes schools for achievements in student learning outcomes, degree completion, success of students in the labor market and the success of minority and low-income students.
Officials from the institute will visit campuses this fall before a prize jury will determine the winner and recognize four other schools for their accomplishments.
