A raccoon with distemper was found and killed Friday morning in Kennewick, police said.
Officers were called to the 8800 block of West Hood Avenue after getting a report about a raccoon walking in circles in the road.
When officers arrived, the raccoon was walking in small circles and hunched up and appeared to be disturbed.
After not being able to contact the Department of Wildlife and Animal Control, dispatchers provided a phone number of a local state licensed trapper.
The trapper saw the raccoon and said it had distemper, which is a contagious and often fatal virus. The raccoon was euthanized and the trapper disinfected the area where it had been, police said.
