A math and social studies teacher at River's Edge High School in Richland is a candidate for the Washington State Teacher of the Year Award.
Brian Sites recently was named Teacher of the Year for Educational Service District 123, according to a Richland School District release.
He joins eight other teachers nominated by their ESD for the state award. In September, he'll travel to Olympia for interviews by a selection committee.
Sites began working for the district in 2003. He's worked on analyzing data to help individual students and has helped develop curriculum at River's Edge, an alternative school for students who've academically struggled.
He received the Crystal Star Award of Excellence in Dropout Recovery, Intervention and Prevention in 2008 from the National Dropout Prevention Network Conference.
