An award-winning second-grade teacher from Columbia Elementary School died Tuesday at her home in Burbank.
Janet Lee Reardon, 50, was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago, Columbia School District officials said, and was on leave during the 2011-12 school year.
Reardon was born in Spokane but lived in the Tri-Cities for the past 35 years. She taught special education in an elementary school in the Pasco School District before moving to Columbia Elementary in 2001 as a preschool teacher. She taught second grade beginning in 2003.
She won a Crystal Apple Award in 2005 from the Mid-Columbia Education Alliance for her work in education at Columbia Elementary.
