The Washington State Department of Revenue have issued a warning to senior citizens about a recent telephone scam.
According to information sent to the Franklin County Assessor's Office in Pasco, solicitors from "Seniors First" are calling and asking people questions about their employment status, age and income under the guise of seeing if they qualify for property tax relief programs.
Solicitors then offer a range of products, primarily reverse mortgages. But the tax information the solicitors give out is incorrect and has led to confusion about what property owners owe.
Anyone contacted by these solicitors is encouraged to call the assessor's office at 545-3506 to report it and clear up any questions they may have regarding their tax status.
